I enjoyed this book more for the details of Chinese life in San Francisco and at the Chinese orphanage than I did for the account of the San Francisco earthquake, which I felt was rushed through.I would love it if Pamela Dell would write a longer story about Sung Li, who was an interesting character. The pictures were an excellent enhancement to the book, especially, for me, the pictures of what Chinese children wore back then.Too bad they weren't in color!I've read one or two other books in this series, which is generally good.Recommended.
