A collection of madcap silliness (don’t take the adjective in the pejorative). With more than more than hint of Dunsay’s tales, Vance’s ironic adventures (“Troubleroot is such a pitch perfect essay in Vance’s style it’s a shame that it wont be in the upcoming Songs of the Dying Earth Vance tribute), Dino Buzzati’s macabre parables, and quite a bit of Calvino’s metafictional playfulness. These short fictions have lots of terrible puns, dreamlike imagery, and are sometimes light and funny and sometimes dense with weirdness; and they even offer a hint or two of bittersweetness.
