INTERESTING FACTS:
§ Prior to becoming a painter, Lorrain trained as a pastrycook.
§ He studied in Rome under AgostinoTassi, a landscape and fresco painter.
§ Lorrain gained success and well paid commissions from Pope Urban VIII, several cardinals and Philip IV of Spain.
§ Lorrain created a book, Liber Veritatis, that included 195 illustrations of his paintings. It contained details of each painting and who the patron was. The book was a valuable tool to prevent forgeries of his work.
